Donald Halweg, 75, of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab in Sioux City.
Donald Halweg was born March 13, 1931, in Merrill, the son of Carl C. and Esther Halweg. He attended school in Le Mars, and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. Donald enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps following high school.
On June 25, 1953, he married Janice L. Luebben at St. John Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Donald was co-owner of H & H Auto Salvage with his father, Carl C. Halweg. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include his children, Terry Halweg of Sioux City, Louise (LouAnn) Sutton and her husband, Charles of Bridgeton, Mo., Randy Halweg and Karla Herman of Sioux City, Lynn Bergeson of Payson, Ariz., Russell Halweg and Mary Pendleton of Lakewood, Colo., and Patrick Halweg and Tere Denman of Mesa, Ariz. Grandchildren are Heidi Sutton, Heather Halweg, Christopher Bergeson, Aubrey Halweg, Amy Bergeson, and Dylan Halweg. He is also survived by a sister, Mavis Colunga of Moorpark, Calif., along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; a daughter, DeAnna; and his parents, Carl and Esther Halweg.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Greg Nanneman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.km.
Serving as casketbearers will be Randy Halweg, Russ Halweg, Pat Halweg, Charlie Sutton, Tim Herbst and Aaron Shearn.
