The Kingsley-Pierson Lady Panthers had three players in double figures and took advantage of poor shooting by Remsen-Union to notch their first Maple Valley Conference win of the season 54-42 in Remsen.

Brianna Schaeuble led K-P with 13 points while Dani Bottorff added 12 and Lyn Leekley 10. Erica Loutsch led R-U with 12, while Gina Frericks added 11 and Susan Law and Ashley Tritz each tossed in six.

Leading 15-8 after one and 31-19 at the half, the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Rockets 21-6 in the third quarter to run away with the contest.

"We tried full-court and half-court man defenses and they both worked well for us," said K-P Coach Nicole Goodwin, as the Lady Panthers nabbed 10 steals. "We also had 15 assists so we're passing the ball better. We're starting to cook, and the girls are reading each other better. I am very proud of their effort."

"A lot of us aren't hitting our open shots," said R-U Coach Randy Frericks, as the Lady Rockets managed just 17 of 56 from the field. "We're playing hard; Erica and Gina are scoring their points but we need a third person to do some scoring so they don't key so much on those two."

K-P also had a 42-32 advantage on the boards. Bottorff led the Lady Panthers with nine, while Ashley Ruba brought down eight and Schaeuble and Amanda Dirksen each had six. Frericks and Mandy Staab each nabbed seven for the Lady Rockets while Susan Law had six and Alicia Nitzschke five.

K-P (2-7) hosts MVC rival Westwood while R-U (2-10) travels to MVC rival Battle Creek/Ida Grove Tuesday.
