Rose M. Wilhelmi, 101, of Le Mars, died Tuesday Dec. 12, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a brief illness.
The former Rose Margaret Block was born Oct. 29, 1905, at Granville, the daughter of Nicholas and Marie (Remacle) Block. She grew up in Hospers and attended St. Anthony's Parochial School. Rose married Peter J. Wilhelmi on June 24, 1930 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hospers. Following their marriage the couple lived for many years in Struble. Her husband Peter died Jan. 16, 1978. In 1979, Rose moved to Floyd Valley Apartments in Le Mars.
Mrs. Wilhelmi was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.
Among her favorite pastimes were reading and playing cards.
Survivors include her three daughters: Flossie Wilhelmi of Le Mars, Mildred "Millie" Hamman and her husband Jim of Kingsley, and Marlys Kufner and her husband George of Center City, Minn.; Seven grandchildren, Mark Hamman and his children, Kate and Elias, all of Osnabruck, Germany, Theresa Best and her children, Brittany and Kelsey of Waukee, Gary Hamman and his fiancÚ Karen Klein of Kingsley, Scott and Megan Hamman and their daughter Ava of Minneapolis, Minn., Curt and Tonia Kufner and their son Garrett of Ypsilanti, Mich., Tom Kufner of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Chris and Wendy Kufner and their children, Amanda Rose, and Matthew of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete Wilhelmi; a grandson-in-law Brian Best; four brothers, John, Nicholas, Mike and Henry Block; and three sisters: Mary Wilhelmi, Josephine Jochum, and Johanna Jungers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation at the Feuerstein Funeral Home will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be George Kufner, Curt Kufner, Chris Kufner, Jim Hamman, Gary Hamman, Scott Hamman, and Theresa Best. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Hamman and Tom Kufner.
