Sandra "Sandy" Ernst, 67, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Sandra Marlene Putnam was born Jan. 17, 1939, in Vermillion, S.D., the daughter of Christian and Elsie (Brown) Putnam. She was baptized into the Catholic faith. Sandy graduated from Vermillion High School in 1957. She worked for Vollmar's Shoes for more than 30 years.
Sandy was united in marriage to Robert Ernst on June 19, 1976 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, doing puzzles, and her pets. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the church Alter Guild.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Robert Ernst of Le Mars; two daughters and sons-in-law: Kelly and Bryan Van Wyk of Le Mars and Darcy and Mike Weber of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren, Joshua, Amy, Christine, and Cody; a sister, LuVerne Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Elsie (Brown) Putnam; and two brothers, Edmund and Chris Putnam.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Visitation with the family present will be today (Friday) from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from noon to service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mike Ernst, Kevin Ernst, Ken Ernst, Dave Hereen, Jerry Rolling, and Ray Bohlke. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Ernst, Dennis Ernst, Bryan Van Wyk, and Mike Weber.
