Roger D. Waddell, 68, of Sioux City passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Roger was born July 25, 1938, in Sioux City, the son of Denver and Lydia (Borcherding) Waddell.

He was married to Lillian Lucinda Hammers on April 22, 1960, in South Sioux City, Neb. She died July 20, 2006. The couple farmed near Merrill from 1961 until 1987, at which time they moved to Sioux City. He then worked for Palmer Candy Co. for several years.

Roger was an avid Vikings fan. He enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Waddell and his wife, Kim of Le Mars, and their four children, Tiffany Waddell, Charissa Waddell, Rochelle Chapman and husband, Jacob, and Chelsey Van Roekel and her husband, James, and Dennis Waddell and his wife, Debbie of Sioux City and their three children, Devin, Heath and Andria Waddell; four great-grandchildren, Trinity, Hunter, Brooklyn and Brek Chapman; a brother, Eugene Waddell and his wife, Karen of Sioux City; and a sister, Dorothy Williams and her husband, Charles of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Darlene Rubida and Helen Carmen; and two brother, Wesley Waddell and Duane Waddell.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Fopma of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars, and the Rev. Gregory Hanneman of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City, officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today (Monday), with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Kluver, Scott Kluver, James Van Roekel, Jacob Chapman, Ed Waddell and Elliott Waddell. Honorary pallbearer will be Heath Waddell.
