Rex W. Allen, 82, of Le Mars, formerly of Pierson, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
Rex was born February 6, 1924, on a farm in rural Pierson, Iowa, the son of Ray and Elizabeth (Irwin) Allen. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1942. He served in the United States Navy as a radioman during World War II from 1944-1946. He married Lois Ann Harnack on Aug. 27, 1960 at Remsen, Iowa. They farmed in the Grand Meadow and Pierson area for 44 years before retiring. He was also in the trucking business for many years.
Rex was a lifelong member of the Pierson United Methodist Church. He was a Grand Meadow Township ASC Committeeman for 17 years, and a board member of the Grand Meadow Heritage Center for 10 years, being board president for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Le Mars; two sons, Jon Allen and his wife, Judey of Chesterfield, N.J., and Scott Allen and his wife, Jennifer of Remsen; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Jenna, Rebecca, and Erika Allen, and one great-grandson, Braxton Lee Allen, all from Remsen. Also surviving is one sister, Ruby Royer of Iowa Falls, and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Hasch of Atascadero, Calif., as well as several nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Carmen Hasch and a brother-in-law, Clair Royer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pierson United Methodist Church in Pierson. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the Pierson United Methodist Church. The Rohde ~ Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, is handling the funeral arrangements.
