LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Edward Hugo Wilhelmi, 83, of Las Vegas, Nev., and a Le Mars native, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.
Edward was born June 28, 1923, in Le Mars, the son of Frank and Mary (Block) Wilhelmi.
He was a 1947 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and served in the U.S. Navy until 1955. In 1956, he joined Rockwell where he was a procurement manager and took early retirement to pursue his interest in avocado growing in Temecula, Calif. He moved to Las Vegas in 1999 to oversee his real estate investments.
Ed enjoyed gardening, especially his beautiful roses.
Survivors include his wife, Patti; his children, Maritza and Thomas Metzger of Tucson, Ariz., Lisa Lord of San Rafael, Calif., Stephen and Debbie Wilhelmi of San Dimas, Calif.; his stepchildren, Gregory and Elizabeth Manento of Torrington, Conn., and Rosemarie and Robert Belanger of Plantsville, Conn.; his grandchildren, Michael and Katherine Metzger and Emily Lord; his brother, Frank and Colleen Wilhelmi of Le Mars; sisters, Dorothy Peterson of Hawarden, Sister Mary Marcia of Mason City, Rosella Wilhelmi of Carmichael, Calif., Marian Bobzien of Le Mars, Patty Blum of Owatonna, Minn., and Delores and Don Grady of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Marge Wilhelmi of Bellevue, Neb. He also leaves many step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose (Varga) Wilhelmi; his parents, Frank and Mary Wilhelmi and a brother, Robert.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, Calif., at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in accordance with his wishes.
