Richard L. "Dick" Holmes, 65, of Le Mars, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at his home in Le Mars.
Richard Lee "Dick" Holmes was born July 10, 1941, in Marcus, the son of John and Nina Holmes. He attended school in Marcus.
Dick served in the Iowa National Guard from 1963 to 1969. Dick was a truck driver for over 40 years. Most recently he drove for BLT of Le Mars. He enjoyed making West coast trips and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed supporting the Iowa State Hawkeyes.
Dick was united in marriage to Debra DeRaad on March 21, 2004 at Elk Point, S.D.
Survivors include his wife, Debra of Le Mars; a son, Chuck Holmes of Sheldon; a sister, Betty Weiler of Marcus; four stepchildren, Stevin Hasler of Osmond, Neb., Hydee Case and her husband, Rich of Sioux City, Joshua Hasler of Le Mars, and Clifford Trudeau of Le Mars; 13 step-grandchildren; and many truck driving friends throughout the country.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson of the Le Mars United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Following the funeral service the family invites everyone to join them in the Carlsen Fellowship Center for a time of fellowship and lunch.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Holmes, Joshua Hasler, Cliff Trudeau, Jim Brownmiller, Gary Booth, and Darwin Smith.
