Three new vehicles were approved for purchase by the Le Mars Community School Board of Education at their meeting Monday night.
Bids were opened at the beginning of the meeting, and approved later in the meeting after review by Assistant Superintendent Rick Kentfield and transportation director Gary Herman.
The board accepted the bid of School Bus Sales of Waterloo of $61,717 for a 2007 Bluebird Vision 60-passenger bus. The district will trade-in a 1987 47-passenger bus which had 176,562 miles on the odometer. All bids factored in a $1,000 trade-in value.
Two other bids were received. Thomas Bus Sales in Des Moines bid $69,270 for a 2007 Thomas bus and Hoglund Bus Company of Marshalltown bid $67,016 on a 2007 International bus.
Three local dealers submitted bids for a cargo van and pickup.
Le Mars Ford Mercury was the low bidder for both vehicles. The board approved the purchase of a 2007 Ford E250 cargo van for $15,794, and a Ford F250 4x4 pickup for $18,163. The 3/4 ton pickup bid also includes a snow blade.
Motor Inn and Nuebel Chevrolet also submitted bids for a cargo van and pickup.
The district traded in a 1997 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup with 49,136 miles and a 1988 Dodge 1/2 ton van with 36,815 miles.
