More than 1,000 high school youth and 200 adults will gather for the second year in a row for the Diocese of Sioux City Youth Rally at Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars Oct. 29.
"The Youth Rally is a great time and a wonderful opportunity for Gehlen Catholic, our parish cluster, and the City of LeMars to have such a positive impact on the youth of our Diocese," said Jeff Alesch, 7-12 principal at Gehlen.
Gehlen Catholic's Director of Campus Ministries, Lisa Sitzmann, added, "Everything ran so smooth last year. So many people stepped forward to volunteer had their hearts in the right spot knowing full well the power of this rally on our younger Catholic generation. The positive energy was incredible at all levels."
The 2006 Diocesan Youth Rally will begin with a welcome, gathering prayer, and liturgy with Bishop Nickless Walker, presiding. The day includes lunch, keynote speakers, workshops, dinner, and a concert featuring two Christian bands, SevenGlory and Heath McNease, new to the rally's agenda.
Jessica LaFleuer, Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry explained the theme for this year's event is "Catholic to the Core." The 22 workshops range from "Dating and Rating;" "Bible Trivia;" "Ready, Set Pray," the opportunity to express your faith as an athlete; "What is Different about being Catholic" and "Choices, Choices, Choices" which delves into moral decision-making.
The speakers for the 2006 Diocesan Youth Rally are members of Oddwalk Ministries, who have spoken at the National Catholic Youth Convention. "They speak about being Eucharistic people, and going through up beat and interactive music and witnessing," said LaFleuer.
