Mrs. Louis (Cecilia) Goergen, 88, of Remsen, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen following a lengthy illness.
Cecilia Goergern was born July 13, 1918, at Medernach, Luxemburg, the daughter of John B. & Mary (Elsen) Muller. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of 3 to Remsen where she was raised and educated. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1937. On Aug. 30, 1937, she married Louis Goergen at Remsen. They lived near Remsen until 1945 when they moved into Remsen.
Louis died Dec. 17, 2000. Cecilia had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen since November 2000.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Christian Mothers in Remsen.
Survivors include six daughters: Geraldine Bastedo of Le Mars, Betty and her husband Vernon Sohm of Dubuque, JoAnn Vandemore of Sioux City, Joyce and her husband Frank McNutt of Spokane, Wash., Mary and her husband John Van Dam of Remsen, Linda Waid of San Antonio, Texas; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Joleen Goergen of Cherokee and Edward and Sally of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Zolnierzak of Rankin, Pa.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard in infancy; two brothers, John and Roger Muller; and a brother-in-law, Ed Zolnierzak.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Friday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be Kirk Sohm, Joe Van Dam, Rich Van Dam, Steve Van Dam, Tyler Van Dam and Vance Vandemore.
