Irma Schietzelt, 95, of Le Mars, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Irma Myriam Esse was born Nov. 19, 1910, in Sioux City, the daughter of Andrew and Effie Esse. Irma began her education in Sioux Falls, S.D., and later moved back to Sioux City where she graduated from Sioux City East High School.

She was united in marriage to Arthur "Pete" Esse in 1936 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City until their retirement in 1972 when they purchased a home at Pleasant Lake near Hackensack, Minn. They returned to Sioux City in 1995 and "Pete" died in March 1997. Irma moved to Le Mars in 1994 and became the very first resident of the new Prime Living Apartments in November 2004. While living at the Prime Apartments, Irma enjoyed the activities and especially treasured her relationships with the staff. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and watching nature. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was awaiting the birth of her first great-great-grandchild when she died.

Survivors include her two children: Richard Schietzelt and his wife, Janice of Le Mars and James Schietzelt and his wife, Gretchen of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren: Juli Singer of Le Mars, Kris and Paul DeRocher of Le Mars, Sherrie and Richard Moritz of Le Mars, Rick and Stephanie Singer of Le Mars, Rebecca and Leland May of Palmer, Alaska, Jamie and Mike Iacobacci of Round Rock, Texas, Jeff and Ania Schietzelt of New York City, Mike Schietzelt of Groton, Conn., Ryan Cupernall who is serving in the United States Navy, and Janell Schietzelt of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Bea Peterson, and a brother Lyman Esse.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City at 12:45 p.m. The Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars is assisting the family with arrangements.
