John B. Valentine, 66, of Le Mars, died of pancreatic cancer Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at his home surrounded by family.
John Brett Valentine was born Jan. 7, 1940 in Buffalo, New York to John A. and Mildred (Hawkins) Valentine. John graduated in 1957 from Norristown High School in Norristown, Penn. While in high school, John participated in theater, debate, and ROTC. John was involved in sales for many years, selling pharmaceutical and plastics in the western United States. In 1973, John met Chareen Jenson while living in Florida, and was unite in marriage on Jan. 7, 1975. The family moved from Florida to Iowa where John worked as an agronomist for co-ops and volunteered as an EMT in various parts of Iowa. In 1991, they moved to Le Mars where John was presently a salesman for Calcium Products of Gilmore City traveling the Midwest.
John enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending their activities and going on family vacations. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of aviation. He loved to be outdoors and could often be found working in his backyard enjoying yardwork and gardening. John was very proud that he could trace his ancestry back to John Alden and Priscilla Mullins who came to this country aboard the Mayflower.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Chareen of Le Mars; a son and favorite daughter-in-law, William and Kellie Slidell and their children Christopher and Rachel of Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters, Jennifer Madsen and her husband Jim and their children Nathan, Nick, Emma, and Elianna of Le Mars, Adrienne Valentine, C.D.A., of Moville, and Laura Valentine of Le Mars; a sister, Barbara Valentine of Normandy Farms, Blue Belle, Penn.; and a brother-in-law, Scott Jenson and his wife Denise of Sarasota, Fla.; Four daughters, Beth, Kim, Laurie, and Dawn, from a previous marriage.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Sunday at the church until service time.
