Mary K. Lorenzen, 76, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Mary Kathryn Kempker was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Carroll, the daughter of John and Catherine (Kewrin) Kempker. When she was a young child, her family moved to Le Mars where she graduated from St. Joseph High School. She attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital (now Floyd Valley Hospital), The Abbey of Le Mars and Brentwood Good Samaritan Center, all in Le Mars.
She married Carl Webster "Webb" Lorenzen June 11, 1956, in Le Mars, where they made their home and raised their family.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Mary loved her friends and traveling to visit family.
Survivors include three sons, Tom Lorenzen and his wife, Sarah, of West Des Moines, John Lorenzen and his wife, Chris of The Netherlands, (John is currently a Major in the U.S. Army), and Mark Lorenzen of Le Mars; eight grandchildren; and a brother- and sister-in-law, Jim and Marge Lorenzen of Le Mars.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl "Webb" Lorenzen who died May 19, 2002; and six brothers, Paul, Bob, Jack, Ed, Jerry and Jim Kempker.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Vistiation begins after 2 p.m. today (Friday), with a rosary by Christian Mothers at 4:30 p.m. and the family present 5 to 7 p.m., with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at the Mauer-Johson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
