Daryl D. "Dinks" Hartman, 71, of Le Mars, died Friday, June 23, 2006 at his home in Le Mars.
Daryl Dean Hartman was born Oct. 19, 1934, on the family farm near Merrill, the son of Theodore, Jr. and Mary (Waechter) Hartman. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Central High School in 1953. He worked briefly before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country in Korea for 17 months. Following his discharge, he went to work for Blankenship Painting in Sioux City. During his tenure, he was involved with the painting of over 96 churches.
He was united in marriage to Marjorie A. "Marge" Miller on May 8, 1971, in Le Mars, Iowa. In 1990, he retired after 25 years of service.
He was a longtime member of the Olson-Halweg American Legion Post #125 of Merrill, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1381 in Le Mars. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, Local #214 in Sioux City.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of more than 35 years, Marge of Le Mars; a son, Paul Hartman and his wife, Heidi of Le Mars; two daughters, Janet Fischer and her husband, Matt of Merrill, and Patty DeVos and her husband, Dan of Merrill; a grandson, Brandon Fischer; four granddaughters, Kimberly Fischer, Sara Fischer, Katelyn Hartman, and Nicole Hartman; one brother, William Hartman and his wife, Sandy of California; two sisters: Deloris "Fern" Portteus and her husband, Paul of Seattle, Wash., and Lorrain Parsons of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Louis, Raymond, Theodore, LeRoy, and Harley; four sisters, Mary Bell, Erma Hartman, Ruth Hartman, and Gladys Hartman.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson of United Methodist Church of Le Mars officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Olson-Halweg American Legion Post #125 of Merrill. There will be a time of fellowship to follow in the Carlsen Family Gathering Center. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday), with the family present after 5 p.m., all at the funeral home.
