Melvin "Bob" Tentinger, 87, of Remsen, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Melvin "Bob" Tentinger was born Sept. 4, 1918, at rural Remsen, the son of Peter and Mary (Ludwig) Tentinger. Melvin was raised in the Remsen and Oyens area and received his education at St. Catherine's Catholic School in Oyens. He was then a farm laborer in the Remsen area. On June 21, 1943, he married Alvira Miller at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home near Remsen where they were engaged in farming and feeding cattle for 62 years at which he was still active at the time of his death.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the past Luxembourg Brotherhood, all of Remsen.
Survivors include his wife, Alvira of Remsen; two sons and their wives, Robert "Butch" and Nancy of Cleghorn, Jay and Deb of Rosemount, Minn.; one daughter, Sharon and her husband, Dale Homan of Remsen; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Robin and her husband Tony Jenness and their children, Brett and Dean, Tina Pearson and her children Cody and Ashley, Heather and her husband Darrin Johnson and their children Rebecca, Brittany and Ethan, Nathan Tentinger and his wife Abby, Chad Tentinger and his children Jeff, Alan, Kristin and Jaci, Nicole Tentinger, Ross Tentinger; one sister, Elaine Staab of Remsen; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Emmert (Norma) Tentinger of Remsen and Mrs. Ralph (Marge) Tentinger of Slayton, Minn.; and one brother-in-law, Carl Kestel of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard in infancy, Emmert and Ralph Tentinger; two sisters, Mildred Kestel and Evelyn Heuertz; and one great-grandson, Brandon Pearson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.
Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, where there will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.
Casketbearers will be Nathan, Chad, Nicole and Ross Tentinger, Tony Jenness and Darrin Johnson. Honorary casketbearers will be Joe and Rob Arens, Loren Lunders, Terry Moritz, Gary Schmitz, Paul Staab. Also serving as honorary bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
