Loretta Siefke

Loretta (Roder) Siefke, 94, of Monrovia, Calif, and a Remsen native, died Oct. 30, 2005.

Loretta was born in Granville, the third of nine children born to John and Mary (Boever) Roder. She attended rural public school through the sixth grade, helped work the family farm, and later was housekeeper for prominent famiies in Sioux City.

She was married on Aug. 22, 1940, to Joseph Siefke, a local Remsen farmer. They left Iowa in that year to make their home in Monrovia, Calif.

Survivors include her children, daughter, Juliann Peakes and her husbnd, Jim of Dexter, Maine; son, Joseph Siefle and his wife, Sandra, of Apple Valley, Calif.; daughter Jeanette Regan and her husband, Michael of Escondido, Calif.; and son William Siefke and his wife, Helen of Arcadia, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The Mass will be officiated by her nephew, the Rev. Terry Roder, son of Joe and Rosemary Roder. Following the Mass, her ashes will be interred at the Siefke family plot at the Remsen City Cemetery. A reception will follow.
