DES MOINES -- Gladys Mayrose, 87, of Des Moines, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Gladys married Cyril Mayrose in Iowa City in 1940. Cyril was a veteran of World War II wounded in Luxembourg. Cyril and Gladys visited Luxembourg in 1986 and Cyril was knighted as a member of the American force that liberated that country. Gladys and Cyril had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary when Cyril died in 1991.
Gladys attended the Business Service Institute of Iowa City. She was a mother, homemaker, and Sears retiree. She was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church and Catholic Widows and Widowers Group.
She is survived by her sons, David and Mark Mayrose; daughters, Veronica Wardell and Beverly Wells; brother, Roy Malatek; and sister Alice Goodwin. She will be missed by her 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she remained close. Gladys will also be missed by her Sunday afternoon card group.
Gladys was also preceded in death by her son, Ralph Mayrose; infant daughter, Marilyn Mayrose; brother, Marvin Malatek and sister, Bernice Grimm.
Services will be held Saturday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, 4605 NW 47th Court, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home.
