Festival of Orchestras concert set at LCS

Members of the Le Mars Community High School orchestra rehearse their selections for the Festival of Orchestra Concert which will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, in the MIddle School Auditorium. The concert features all orchestra students from fourth grade through high school. There is no admission charge for this concert.

The Le Mars Community Schools music department will present Festival of Orchestras at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, in the Middle School Auditorium. Admission is free.

The program will start with the Elementary Strings playing, "Twinkle Variations," "Mexican Hat Dance," "French Folk Song" and Dr. Fiddlesticks.

Next in stage will be Cordas da Camara. They will play "Hoedoe from Rodeo" by Aaron Copland; "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber and "Mountain Spring" by Dean Marshall.

The Middle School Symphony will present four selections: "Turkey March," "Slavonic Triptych," "Nelhybel 2. Russian Legend 3. Polish Chant" and Engines of Resistance.

The High School Symphony will close the concert with three selections, "Empire Strikes Back," "Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and "The Hut of Baba Yaga/The Great Gate of Kiev."

Also on the program are the introduction of seniors and the National School Orchestra Award.

Ted Hallberg is the director of the 4-12 orchestra program at Le Mars Community Schools.
