Lillian E. Mohning, 75, of rural Remsen, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at her home following a lengthy illness.

Lillian Eleanor (Bystrek) Mohning was born March 1, 1931, in Remsen, the daughter of Walter and Blanche (Cass) Bystrek. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, graduating from high school in 1949. On Sept.14, 1949, Lillian and Louie Mohning were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home in the Remsen area.

Lillian worked in various locations using her talents as a seamstress. She sewed at K-Products in Le Mars and Orange City, Aalfs in Le Mars, and sewed at home for K-Michelle, a business in Des Moines.

Lillian was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus and a member of St. Ann's Guild. She enjoyed playing card and dice games, gardening, fishing and "going south." Most important to Lillian was her family and "her Louie."

Survivors include her husband Louie of rural Remsen, and their children Les and Pam, Lee and Lori, Loren and Lynn Mohning all of Marcus, Lisa and Doug Engel, and Louie Mohning all of Le Mars; 34 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary and her husband, Gene Scollard of North Canton, Ohio; a brother, James Bystrek his wife, Virginia of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Rita Bystrek of Omaha, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four infant children David, Laurie, Lonnie and Larry; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Cecil Majeres and a brother, Charles Bystrek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Rev. Eugene Murray will officiate, with the Rev. Richard Ball and the Rev. Richard Remmes. Burial will follow Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. There will be a rosary service at 3 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Lillian's grandsons: Chris, Tim, Charlie, Justin, Ben, Joe, Pat, Louie, David and Jake Mohning. Honorary pallbearers will be Lillian's granddaughters: Jenny, Laurissa, Katie and Beth Mohning, Amanda Kuenen, Alicia Engel and Renae Beeck.
