Marguerite "Marge" Carley, 92, of Le Mars, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars.
Marguerite Carley was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Stanton Township, Plymouth County, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Roetke) Schulz. She attended country school and later graduated from Le Mars High School. Following her education, Marge taught country school for 10 years.
On Oct. 10, 1940, Marge and Ronald R. Carley were united in marriage in Le Mars. When Ron was discharged from the military following World War II, the couple made their home in Le Mars. Marge worked as a bookkeeper for JCPenney's in Le Mars as well as a homemaker caring for her family. Ron died Nov. 12, 2001. Marge remained in her home until moving to the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars on Sept 27, 2005.
Marge was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She and Ron were also members of the Le Mars Elks Club. She loved to entertain, play bridge with her friends, and was a wonderful cook. For the last few years she became a faithful follower of the Sioux City Bandits where her son Mark is associated.
Survivors include a son, Mark Carley and Linda of Sioux City; a daughter Martha Carley and her husband, Bill Szotkowski of River Falls, Wis.; and a granddaughter, Annie Carley-Szotkowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ronald; and a sister Evelyn Schulz.
Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. today (Tuesday, March 14) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
