Arthur H. "Art" Netley, 88, of Akron, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, following a short illness.

Arthur Henry Emil Netley was born Dec. 21, 1917, on the family farm near Lawton, the son of Frank and Amelia (Zieche) Netley. He attended country school near Lawton and later Lawton High School. Following his schooling, he began his farming career near Lawton. He was united in marriage to Ninon Haddock on June 21, 1941, at her parent's home near Anthon. Together, they are parents of four children: Judy, James, Melinda, and Kevin. In 1942, the couple moved to the Akron area. They farmed near Ruble for many years. Art retired in 1980, but continued to help his son on the farm until his health began to fail. For the past month, he has been a resident of the Akron Care Center.

He was a longtime member of Adaville United Methodist Church where served on several leadership committees. He was a board member of the Plymouth County Historical Museum. He was also a member of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He was a former superintendent of the Ruble Country School.

He enjoyed his times in his log cabin that he built in the northwoods of Minnesota. He also enjoyed fishing and jigsaw puzzles. He was known as a patient and gentle man to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, Ninon of Akron; four children, Judy Keith and her husband Les of Pryor, Okla., James Netley and his wife, Beverly of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Melinda Heiderscheit and her husband, Michael of Pryor, Okla., and Kevin Netley and his wife, Pamela of Akron; a brother: Lester Netley of Pine River, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three yet to arrive; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Carl, and Albert Netley; and a sister, Louise Netley.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Akron, with the Rev. Lee Crum and the Rev. Benjamin Meeks officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Akron. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casketbearers will be Richard Netley, Dwayne Netley, Andrew Netley, Kevin Netley, Jr., Randy Netley, and David Allen. Honorary casketbearers will be Claire Allen, Lorvan Hawkins, Rollin Tindall, and three friends who have passed on, Marls Goodrich, Adam "Buster" Tindall, Jr., and J. Clark Tindall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials can be made in Art's name to the Akron Care Center or Adaville United Methodist Church.
