Vincent E. Geary, 85, of Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, and formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, of pneumonia at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Des Moines after a lengthy illness.
Vincent was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Sioux City, the son of John and Agnes McLaughlin Geary. He proudly served in the Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He married Leone Guyer on June 13, 1952, at Harlan.
Vincent worked in the shipping department at Quaker Oats and retired from there in 1986 after 33 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and especially time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Leone; a son, Dennis (Candice) of Verona, Wis.; two daughters, Ruth Geary of North Liberty and Laura Geary Bell (Ted) of Marion; four brothers, Bernard (Nellie) and Leo (Eileen), both of Sioux City, Richard (Bonnie) of Lenexa, Kan., and Joe (Margene) of Hinton; four sisters, Rosemary Leber and Cecelia Hutton (Gene) both of Sioux City, and Margaret Grosenheider and Agnes (Jim) Thelen, both of Le Mars; four grandchildren, Jason and Devin Geary, Allison and Meghan Bell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids,with military rites conducted by American Legion Hanford Post 5. Burial was at Union Cemetery, south of Maquoketa.
