Harry Schultz, 87, of Sioux City, formerly of Merrill, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Morningside Nursing and Rehab in Sioux City.
Harry Willis Schultz was born Aug. 15, 1918, on the Charles Schultz family farm in Stanton Township, rural Merrill, the son of Charles and Helena (Lippke) Schultz. Harry attended country school at Stanton #4 through the eighth grade.
He was united in marriage to Sylvia Aronson of Albert City on Nov. 20, 1942, at Minneapolis, Minn. To this union, four children were born: Esther, Roger, Andrew, and Naomi. Harry and Sylvia continued farming the family farm from 1942 to 1982.
In 2001, Harry's health necessitated the very difficult decision to move from his birthplace to live with his daughters and son. In 2003 he became a resident of Morningside Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City where he received excellent care until his death.
Harry was a member for 56 years, then an honorary member, of the Le Mars Assembly of God Church where he taught adult Sunday School, served as a Sunday school superintendent, and a board member. In 2003, Harry and Sylvia became members of Morningside Assembly of God Church in Sioux City. Harry loved God, his country, and his family very much. Harry had been a member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO).
Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sylvia of Sioux City; four children: Esther and Laurin Eichhorn of Sioux City, Roger and Barbara Schultz of Annandale, Va., Andrew and Phyllis Schultz of Council Bluffs, and Naomi and the Rev. Phil Goss of Cape Coral, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Cheryl and Dan Kruger, Bryan Eichhorn and his fiancée Teresa Rockdaschel, Tami and Tri Tran, Teena Schultz, Teresa Schultz, Toni and Matthew Gouge, Jason and Chase Goss, Lucas Goss, Nathan and Lee Ruth Goss, Rachel Goss and her fiancé Steven Porter, and Stephen Goss; eight great grandchildren: Joseph, Samuel, and Timothy Kruger, Samuel, Cassondra, and Peyton Goss, and Jonathon and Chloe Gouge; a brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Blanche Schultz of Swanville, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helena (Lippke) Schultz; two brothers, Edward Kehrberg and Carl Schultz; and a sister, Alva Kehrberg.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Phil Goss officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Stanton Township Cemetery. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Pallbearers will be Roger Schultz, Andrew Schultz, Laurin Eichhorn, Teena Schultz, Bryan Eichhorn, and Dan Kruger.
