Merrill Curtis Davis, 93, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at his home. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista for the past 2 1/2 years.
Merrill was born Jan. 21, 1912, in Elmhurst, Ill., the son of James and Ada Davis. He was an avid reader and loved music.
Merrill had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in church choirs and even an opera. He played several instruments, including the guitar. Merrill also enjoyed bike riding, hiking and gardening. He loved to travel and visited a number of countries including Greece, Turkey, Israel and Pakistan. While serving in the U.S. Army, Merrill was stationed in Germany and Korea.
He also had a PhD. in Philosophy and was a college professor and a minister, both of which he loved doing. He was a member of the Westmar College faculty in Le Mars from 1953 until his retirement in 1977.
Survivors include his daughter, Delora Jennings and son Paul Davis, both of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; grandchildren, Jay Jennings, Juli Shaffett, Suzanna Samb and Cere Davis, all of Seattle, Wash.; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, R. Genevieve Davis and his parents.
Funeral services will be held in Renton, Wash., with interment at Greenwood Memorial Park, also in Renton.
