Marvel E. Riediger, 81, of Hinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at her daughter's residence in Sioux City, following an extended illness.

Marvel E. rieidiger was born Oct. 24, 1924, near Neptune, the daughter of Oscar J. and Edith M. (Finch) Schulz, and grew up in the Neptune area. On Sept. 3, 1949, she married Earl F. Riediger at Trinity Lutheran Church, near Hinton. The couple married following Earl's discharge from the military and made their home on a farm near Hinton.

Marvel was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton.

Survivors include four children, Sharon Jonas and her husband, Jeff, of Remsen, Brenda Newberg of Sioux City, Randy Riediger and his wife, Cindy, of Hinton, and Terry Riediger and his wife, Leslie, of Lawton; one sister, Marian Riediger of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Claire Nicole Jonas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on Dec. 3, 1983; a son, Monty; a sister, Alvina Schumann; and two brothers, Ronald Schulz in infancy and Oscar "Junior" Schulz.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today (Friday) at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. David P. Kottlowski of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux Ci'ty. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Friday.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Steven Jonas, Rusty Jonas, Corey Newberg, Brett Newberg, Riley Riediger and Blake Riediger, Adam Riediger and Bryce Riediger. Honorary casketbearers will be her granddaughters, Audra Jonas, Amber Jonas, Angela Jonas, Tamie Newberg, Laura Newberg, Carlee Riediger and Jenna Riediger.
