CLEGHORN -- Leland (Lee) Bush, 81, of Cleghorn, died peacefully into eternal life with Christ on Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at the Cherokee Village nursing and Rehab Center in Cherokee, where he had been a residence since September 1999.

Lee was born July 12, 1924, the son of Jacob and Lillian (Kirchoff) Bush. He was a resident of and farmed in Cherokee County his entire life. He received his elementary education at the Maryhill and Rock Township schools, graduating from Quimby High School in 1941.

On Aug. 2, 1950, Lee married Erma Kay Ruden at St. Joseph's Church in Le Mars. They lived in the Bush family century farm south of Cleghorn. Lee was a gentleman and a gentle man. He was a kind, caring, fun-loving person who dearly loved spending time with his wife and also his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing, parties with friends, and tending to his farm animals.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Erma; three sons, Robert (Tami) Bush of Cherokee, Jacob Bush of Cedar Rapids, William Bush of Cleghorn; four daughters, Lynette (Don) Reinholdt of Pocahontas, Joan Bierman of Marcus, Arlene (Dave) Alesch of Marcus and Jane Ann (Jeff) Putzier of Bonne; a daughter-in-law, Dian Bush of Kingsley; 27 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-greatgrandchild; a brother, Jim (Eileen) of Cleghorn; two sisters-in-law, Doris Delaney-Bush of Sioux City and Mary Ann Bush of Cleghorn.

He was preceded in death by a son, John; two children in infancy, Jared and Lizbeth; his parents; a stepfather, Chester Peck; and two brothers, Henry (Daria) and Lester Bush.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Maryhill Visitation Church, rural Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
