IRETON -- Peter Statema, 67, of rural Ireton, died suddenly Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at the Orange City Health Systems Hospital in Orange City.
Peter Statema was born July 12, 1938, to Peter and Anna (Jansma) Statema in Ireton. He was united in marriage to Huibertha "Bertha" Brands on Aug. 4, 1960, in Rock Valley.
Peter farmed north of Ireton until 1967 and then moved to a farm south of Ireton. He also worked as a USDA meat inspector from 1984-2005 in Luverne, Minn., Sioux City and Sioux Center.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church at Ireton.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two sons, Jeff (Gina) Statema of Le Mars, and David Statema of Alton; two daughters, Linda (David) Renes of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lisa Statema of Fayetteville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Kelli, Veronica and Samuel Renes and Allegra Statema; a brother, Clarence (Beulah) Statema of Rock Valley; two sisters, Geneva (William) Burggraaf of Rock Valley and Priscilla (Otto) Huizenga of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Iola Statema of Zeeland, Mich., and a brother-in-law, Jim Sikma of Hull.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Art and Frank; and three sisters, Ann Zomermaand. Betty Sikma, and Madelyn Huizenga.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton with the Rev. Norlyn Van Beek officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation began at noon Sunday, with the family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.
