Vern Anderson retires; dealership sold to Titan Machinery

Wednesday, November 2, 2005

A longtime northwest Iowa tradition ended as Vern Anderson announced he was retiring from his farm equipment dealerships Tuesday.

The locally-owned business, which has locations in Le Mars, Kingsley, Cherokee, and Anthon, will now be under the ownership of Titan Machinery.

Vern Anderson, Inc., was founded in 1948 by George and Ruby Anderson as an International Harvester dealership. Vern Anderson joined his father in the business in 1968 before purchasing it in 1979.

"We have watched the success of Titan Machinery over the years and feel their business philosophy parallels ours," Vern Anderson says. "I feel that it is in the best interests of our employees and customers to team up with an organization that is a leader in the industry and brings value to our communities and local farmers."

Titan Machinery, a dealer for Case Construction and New Holland, has 22 farm equipment and construction equipment locations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa.

David Meyer, CEO of Titan Machinery says: "We are looking forward to the opportunity in northwest Iowa. Vern Anderson has a quality staff with many years of experience. These are well-run dealerships. This is an excellent diversified agricultural area, and we are excited about the potential."

The business will continue to be named Vern Anderson Equipment and operate out of the same locations. Currently, the business has 45 full-time employees in its four locations. Doug Vondrak will continue as general manager.
