Nina Impecoven

Nina Impecoven, 93, of Dayton, and formerly of Galva and Le Mars, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Nina Impecoven was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Britton, S.D., the daughter of William K. and Katie L. (McLeod) Patterson. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1931.

On Nov. 28, 1934, Nina married Harry Impecoven at Britton, S.D. They had one son, Robert Wayne. Nina, Harry and Robert moved to Portland, Ore., in 1938. Harry died when Robert was eight years old. Nina and her son moved to Le Mars in December 1944, where Nina worked as a clerk in the B & B Variety Store until retiring to Galva in the mid 1970s. She made her home at Grandview Care Center in Dayton in 1992, where she participated in many of the activities. She especially enjoyed playing bingo each week, collecting her winnings in candy, which she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As a clerk at the B & B Variety Store, Nina earned the honor of Employee of the Month from the Chamber of Commerce, for which she was honored at a citywide banquet.

She was an active member of both the Le Mars and Galva Methodist Churches. She continued her membership at Galva United Methodist Church until her death.

Nina will be remembered as a loving, caring, giving and loyal person.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Robert and Darlene Impecoven of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Linda and Valgene Lind of Ogden, Scott and Jane Impecoven of Tacoma, Wash., and Diane and Tim O'Neill of LeClaire; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Patterson of Ames; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, James, Arnold, Leslie K., Harold and Chester Patterson; and a sister, Lucile Lease.

Funeral services were at 1;30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Galva United Methodist Church in Galva with the Rev. Ron Johannsen officiating. Burial was in Galva Township Cemetery East at Galva.

The Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tim O'Neill, Val Lind, Scott Impecoven, Shawn O'Neill, Dean Siders, Joe Impecoven and Tim O'Neill.
