Catherine Mary Ogren, 87, of Marcus, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness.

Catherine was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Marcus, the daughter of Alfred and Aramita (Peavey) Pitts. After graduating from high school, Catherine attended Iowa Teachers' College in Cedar Falls before teaching four and half years at the Tilden #2 Rural School in Cherokee County. She married Paul C. Ogren on Jan. 25, 1941. Paul and Catherine moved onto the original 1877 family homestead in Tilden Township where they have remained for nearly 65 years. To this union were born five sons and a love for homemaking. She supported her sons' and grandchildren's interest in 4-H.

Catherine enjoyed her Birthday Card Club with dear friends.

She was a 68-year-member of the Grace United Methodist church, past Sunday school teacher and mentor to many.

Survivores include her husband, Paul of Marcus, five sons, Rod of Marcus, Roger and his wife, Sara of Exeter, Neb., Kenneth and his wife, Kathy of Marcus, Steve and his wife, Renea of Marcus, and Chuck and his wife, Kay of Marcus; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Shannon, Ryan and Aaron; David and his wife Malina, and Michelle; Elizabeth Koenig and her husband Nicklas, and Eric; Celeste and Garrett; and two sisters, Annabell McCord of Auburn, Calif., and Myrtle Atkins of Roseville, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Dale and his wife Blanche, and Kenneth; and sister, Mildred Hueser and her husband, Ben; and two brothers-in-law, Glen McCord and Richard Atkins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Burial will be at Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today (Friday), with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus.
