James J. Alesch, 74, of Marcus, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Jim was born Dec. 25, 1930, in rural Marcus, the son of Henry J. and Rosemary (Lauters) Alesch. He graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus after which he served in the U.S. Army. He married Margaret Kellen on Feb. 14, 1956, in Le Mars. Following their marriage, they farmed the Marcus area until 1993, retiring to town in 2001.
Jim was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Meg" Alesch of Marcus; four daughters, Kim Daum and her husband, Randy of Alton, Kelli Cutler of Carlisle, Kay Schat of South Sioux City, Neb., and Karla Solko of Aurelia; six sons, Kirk Alesch of Brighton, Mich., Kevin Alesch of Marcus, Kris Alesch and his wife, Lisa, of Early, Ken Alesch and his wife, Melanie, of Le Mars, Keith Alesch and his wife, Chantelle, of Remsen, Kory Alesch and his wife, Jamie, of Remsen; 21 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jean Fetsch and her husband, Arnie, of Crown Point, Ind., and Janet Sizemore and her husband, John, of Portage, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rosemary Alesch.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus with a military graveside services conducted by F.I. Goodburn Post 517 of Marcus. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., all at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Earnest ~ Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus is handling all funeral arrangements.
