COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- Virla DeRaad, age 98, of Coffeyville, Kan., died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.

She was born Feb. 14, 1907, in Seney, the daughter of Charles W. Cook and Martha J. (Reeves) Cook. Virla married Alfred V. DeRaad Dec. 31, 1930, in Le Mars. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1969.

Her hobbies included crocheting, reading and raising potted plants. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Virla was very active in the lives of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris Armstrong of Coffeyville, Kan.; one son, Dean DeRaad of Coffeyville, Kan.; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. in the Resthaven Cemetery in Le Mars. The Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of local arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice c/o the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville.
