AMES -- Claribel E. Larson, 95, of Ames, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames.
Claribel E. Larson was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Spragueville, the daughter of Harry S. and Hattie C. (Schroeder) Paup. She married Joseph T. Larson on Jan. 19, 1941, in Preston.
She graduated from Preston High School in 1927 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and Drake University. She taught in Cambridge. She was a housemother at Iowa State University from 1965 to 1973 and then at Westmar College in Le Mars. She retired in 1976.
She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and Golden Agers.
She had also lived in Lost Nation, Lake City, Cambridge and Madera, Calif.
Survivors include her son, Bruce E. Larson and his wife, Kathy Fernbach of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Karen E. Stansbery and her husband, Bill Stansbery of Ames; two sisters, Opal Mohr of Buffalo, N.Y., and LaVerne Tharp of Ottumwa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Larson, on May 2, 1956; one brother and one infant sister.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, a Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames, with the Rev. John Anderson officiating. Burial was in Palestine Cemetery at Huxley. The Adams Funeral Home of Ames was in charge of arrangements.
