The 2005 Le Mars United Way campaign will kick off with the second annual le Mars United Way Golf Tournament set for Sept. 1, according to Kevin Regan, 2005 campaign chair.
The 18-hole, four person scramble is set for a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at the Le Mars Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds from the tournament will be allocated by the Le Mars United Way board to local agencies serving the Le Mars area.
Regan, who is vice president of purchasing and national accounts at Harker's Distribution in Le Mars, encourages people to sign up teams as soon as possible.
"Last year was the first time we did this tournament and it successfully raised nearly $3,000. We want to grow it this year knowing the more we raise the better for the Le Mars community," Regan said.
Participants can signup by calling Rob Bixenman at 546-8154 or online at www.unitedwaysiouxland.com/events. The $50 per person entry fee includes cart rental and a steak dinner.
"We are hoping the golf tournament will give us a strong start to the 2005 campaign," noted Regan. "To make it fun and ensure its success, we've had several companies and donors step up with prizes as well as help in underwriting the steak dinner that follows."
In addition to prizes such as the longest drive and closest to the pine, Regan said golfers who sink a hole-in-one at one of the four par three's will will $10,000, a 3-day resort vacation package, a Bose wave radio or a new set of golf irons.
The 2005 United Way campaign runs from September through December. The golf tournament kick off involves several companies and individuals donating their support. Last year's campaign raised more than $97,000.
"Prior to the 1 p.m. shotgun start there will be some campaign festivities, the announcement of our goal, and recognition of the people that give their time to make the Le Mars United Way successful," Regan said.
