Geraldine F. Andersen, 71, of Glendale, Ariz., died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Glendale following a lengthy illness of COPD.

She was born Oct. 21, 1933, at Hospers, the daughter of Vincent and Florentine Penning. She was raised and educated in the Granville, and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952. She then moved to Sioux City where she attended Ellis Cosmetology School, graduating in 1953, and was employed at Younker-Davidson Beauty Salon in Sioux City until 1957. She then purchased the Modern Beauty Shop in Le Mars.

She married Ronald Andersen in 1958 and when he got a government job with the Corps of Engineers at Pickstown, S.D., in 1960, she sold the beauty shop and became a domestic engineer.

Survivors include her husband, four children, two sons and two daughters, Randall and friend, Cheryl of Las Vegas, Nev., Rodney and his wife, Lorna of Phoenix, Ariz., Robbin McGarvy of Pueblo, Colo., and Ramona Andersen of Glendale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Corrine and her husband, Chris Reinhardt, Catherine, Charles, and Colton McGarvy of Pueblo, Colo., and Nathan Andersen of Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-grandson, Micah Toler of Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers Ronald Penning and his wife, Diane of Tucson, Ariz., and Kenneth Penning and his wife, Pat of Omaha, Neb., and one sister, Marilyn Champion of Lake View; many brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Burkard, Muriel Penning, Helen Harms, Florence Grosenheider, and Estella and Willard Herman of Le Mars, Russell and Marie Andersen of Paullina, Vigil and Hazel Johnson of Battle Creek, Robert and Darlene Andersen of Sioux City, and Richard Andersen of Burnsville, Minn.; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Lowell in infancy, Dennis and Lloyd; two sisters, Lois Burkard and Darlene Penning; three brothers-in-law, Martin Champion, Jerry Andersen, and William Grosenheider; one sister-in-law, Marlene Criswell; one nephew and three nieces.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Chapel of the Chimes in Glendale, Ariz. Interment will be in Resthaven Park Cemetery.
