Ruth M. Book, 86, of Le Mars, died Sunday July 24, 2005. at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, following a lengthy illness.
The former Ruth Reding was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Newell, the daughter of Edward L. and Letta (Warren) Reding. Ruth grew up in Storm Lake where she graduated from high school. She then received her nurse's training in Carroll. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked for a time in Minneapolis, Minn. Ruth was involved in a lot of private duty nursing as well as working at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars for many years.
Ruth Reding married Arthur F. Book on February 10, 1943 in Storm Lake. Ruth and Art lived in Storm Lake, Montevideo, Minn., and Worthington, Minn., before moving to Union, southeast of Le Mars. They operated a grocery store near the Union School. The couple then moved back to Storm Lake for a while, where they were both employed at Methodist Manor. They moved back to the Le Mars area and later to Orange City. Her husband, Art died in 1982. Ruth made her home at Plymouth Manor for the past 14 years.
Survivors include a sister Rosemary Peterson and her husband Leonard of Wichita, Kan.; two nieces and their husbands, Janet and Robert Barnes and Lorry Ann and Mark Swayze, all of Wichita; a grand-niece, three grand-nephews, and a great-grand-nephew, all of Wichita; and special friends, Bob and Ruth Kenaley of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1982; her father Edward L. Reding in 1983; her mother Letta Reding in 1966; and a nephew James L. Peterson in 1995.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday Aug. 1, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
