Kenneth A. Probst, 88, of Alton, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Taylor House at Des Moines.
Kenneth A. Probst was born May 29, 1917, at rural Alton, the son of Otto and Anna (Konz) Probst. Kenneth was raised in the Alton area and received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary's Academy in Alton. He was then engaged in farming with his parents.
On Feb. 24, 1942, he married Dora Jiskoot at Alton. They made their home southeast of Alton where they were engaged in farming. In March 1954, they moved to a farm near Galva, and in March 1957 they moved to a farm near Sedan, Minn. In 1974, they moved into Alton where he was employed at the Alton Rendering Works until retiring in 1982.
In 1991 they moved to Orange City, and in April 2003 they moved to Des Moines. He entered the River View Care Center in Des Moines on Sept. 22, 2003, and had been a resident of Taylor House since July 14, 2005.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Alton.
Survivors include his wife, Dora of Des Moines; three daughters, Dianne and her husband, Bill Gregor, and Lu Ann Kramer all of Des Moines, and Glenda Probst of Montezuma; one son, Gary and his wife, Pat of Westminster, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Milo and his wife, Tarsella of Alton; one sister, Mrs. Edwin (Betty) Reker of Lismore, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Milo Reker of Worthington, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald (Marilyn) Probst of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence and his wife, Florence, Donald and Rodney; four sisters, Mrs. Milo (Bernadine) Reker, Mercedes and her husband, C. J. Wolf, Florence and her husband, Tony Frederes, Bernice and her husband, Vincent Gergen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today (Friday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Mary's Rosary Society and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church.
Casket bearers will be Jason, Travis and Shawn Tauber, Ben Probst, Randy Gergen, Ronald Reker. Honorary bearers will be Jennifer Brown and Courtney Kramer.
