The Remsen-Union softball team scored four runs in the third inning and added a three-run sixth in cruising to a 9-2 Maple Valley Conference home win over visiting Lawton-Bronson Friday.

The Lady Rockets scored a single run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead, following up with a four-run third and another single run in the fourth for a commanding 6-0 advantage. Lawton-Bronson tried to make a game of it with two runs of its own in the top half of the sixth, but R-U plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to erase the Eagles' progress and increase its lead by one. R-U pitcher Erica Loutsch capped the game with a scoreless seventh as the Lady Rockets improved to 4-6 in the MVC with the win.

Loutsch pitched all seven innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits and three walks. She was backed up by solid R-U defense and a load of offense as the Lady Rockets totaled eight hits in the game. Katie Heisterkamp was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the way, Marisa Wurth and Cassie Stoos turned in 2-for-4 nights at the plate, Sara Bortscheller was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Kelsey Gries was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

"Erica pitched a great game and we got our bats going," said R-U coach Heather Youde. "We finally played some great defense. We had two errors and they didn't hurt us too bad."

The Lady Rockets (8-15) will next play in their final MVC game of the season Tuesday at Kingsley-Pierson.
