The City of Le Mars has installed additional banners to greet drivers at the far corners of the community.

The green "Welcome to Le Mars" banners, like those in the downtown, have been attached to poles:

* south on U.S. Highway 75 to 18th Street;

* east on Iowa Highway 3; and,

* west on Iowa Highway 3.

There were fewer poles to use west of town, said Jayne McGuire, Main Street Le Mars manager.

City workers installed the new banners, which were purchased through the city's grant to Main Street from local option sales tax, according to McGuire. That recent grant was for $9,000.

The original 48 banners in the downtown, which fly from the same poles as the holiday banners, were purchased in 1998.
