SUN CITY, Ariz. -- Hjordis Peterson, 102, of Sun City, Ariz., died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at her home in Sun City.
Hjordis Peterson was born Nov. 29, 1902, in Skedsmo, Norway, the daughter of Hilmar Jorgensen Strom and Tonette Mathias (Glendrange). She trained in Oslo, Norway, as a registered nurse, and immigrated by boat to the United States in 1927. She worked as a nurse for more than 65 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Marie Faber and her husband, Dr. Wayne, of Le Mars, and Connie Carey of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, Ed Peterson of Estes Park, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Jay Faber, Heidi Faber, Kendra Carey, Kellie Carey, Bryan Peterson, Sonya Grafton and her husband, Jeff, and Carol John Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Steve Faber, Taylor and Kendall Grafton; first cousins, Kirsten Falch and Torgeir Strom; seven nieces and two nephews in Norway, Gerda Allerman, Walter (Lavine) Strom, Hugo (Carol) Strom, Norman (Jeanette) Hansen, Nora Swanson. Also extended family, Judy (Jim) Conradson, Joe and Lorraine Loveless, Gayle Loveless, Michael, Lori, Maddie, Sydney and Max Regan; beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl E. Peterson; three sisters, Marie Myhrer, Hannah Ellingsrud, Konstance Strom; one brother, Trygve Strom in Norway; and a granddaughter, Ana Maria Faber.
A Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at American Lutheran Church in Sun City, Ariz., with interment at Sunwest Cemetery.
