Joseph 'Joe' Loutsch

Joseph J. "Joe" Loutsch, 45, of Akron, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 22, 2005, from injuries suffered in a farming accident.

Joseph J. Loutsch was born March 14, 1960, in Le Mars, one of 15 children born to Ronald A. and Lorna M. (Kunkel) Loutsch. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Joe attended school in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School in 1979. He attended Sioux Empire Community College in Hawarden for one year. Following his schooling, he farmed near Akron for many years.

He was united in marriage to Denise Ruhland on Aug. 27, 1983, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Together, they were the parents of two sons, Adam and Doug.

Joe's passion in his life was coaching and watching his sons in all their sporting events. He loved coaching baseball and playing golf. He also loved planting crops in the spring and harvesting them in the fall.

He was a member of the Akron-Westfield Booster Club. He was a board member of the Akron Health Club and a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. He was a member of 4-H for nine years. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron where he ushered for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, gardening, and canning foods. He was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. But most of all, he loved his time spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of more than 21 years, Denise of Akron; his two sons, Adam and Doug of Akron; his parents, Ronald and Lorna Loutsch of Akron, his brothers and sisters: RoseMary Mullane and her husband, Dan of Mascoutah, Ill., Janice Rolfes and her husband, Rick of Merrill, Tony Loutsch and his wife, Patti of Sioux City, Danny Loutsch of Westfield, Barbara Heeren and her husband, Gary of Akron, Judy Loutsch of Indianola, Phyllis Newman and her husband, Bob of Le Mars, Roger Loutsch of Westfield, Florence Skinner and her husband, Ray of Bronson, Margie Perry of Le Mars, Tim Loutsch of Westfield, Georgia Steen and her husband, Cory of Akron, Brian Loutsch and his wife, Doris of Le Mars, and Brad Loutsch of Westfield; his father and mother-in-law: Lawrence and Mary Ruhland of Hawarden; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Brent Perry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron with Msgr. Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday with the family present after 5 p.m. There will be a Scriptural wake service followed by a parish rosary at 5:30 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers will be: Todd Colt, Jeff Wolf, Mic Ruhland, Jerry Ruhland, Brian Loutsch and Tim Loutsch.
