BEND, Ore. -- Doris M. Bergner, 71, of Bend, Ore., and a Remsen native, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Bend, Ore.
Doris M. Bergner was born June 2, 1933, at Le Mars, the daughter of John Henry and Philapena (Langel) Harpenau. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Remsen, attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City, and became a registered nurse.
On April 10, 1956, she married Chester F. Bergner. She was a longtime resident of Lancaster, Calif., in the Antelope Valley since 1956. She moved to Tehachapi, Calif., in 2000 and then to Bend, Ore., in 2002.
She worked for 20 years as a registered nurse in Antelope Valley Medical Center emergency room, retiring in 1984 due to illness.
She was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Bend, Ore., and a former member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster, Calif.
She enjoyed card games, puzzles, going to movies, and her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Chester A. Bergner of Lynnwood, Wash., and Robert J. Bergner of Nipomo, Calif.; three daughters, Jeanne Waterworth of Tehachapi, Calif., Julie Garton of Mooresville, N.C., and Linda Passage of Bend, Ore.; four brothers, Bob Harpenau of Le Mars, Ray Harpenau of Remsen, Don Harpenau of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Tom Harpenau of Alton; three sisters, Vernell Chapman of Le Mars, Marge Fredricks of Remsen and Helen Galles of Remsen; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester F. Bergner on June 16, 1975; and two brothers, Leroy Harpenau and Bill Harpenau.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster, Calif. Burial will be in Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster. Visitation will be today (Monday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Halley Olsen Funeral Chapel in Lancaster, Calif., with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
The Deschutes Memorial Chapel in Bend, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.
