8th annual LCS Music Boosters auction offers variety

The eighth annual Le Mars Community Music Boosters Auction will be held this Friday, April 1, beginning at 7:05 p.m. in the high school library.

The evening starts with the annual Soup and Pie Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school lunchroom. Tickets for the supper are available at the door. Auction items will be on display in the high school lobby during the supper.

A silent auction will also be conducted during the supper hours. Bidders need not be present at the end of the silent auction to receive their purchase.

Bidding numbers will be used at the auction. Those will bidding numbers will be automatically entered in a drawing for the "Companion" stainless steel, portable grill by Holland, donated by Gus Pech Manufacturing Co. The drawing will be held at the end of the auction and the the number holder must be present to win.

Another new feature is the drawing for the "Music Quilt," during the auction. Raffle tickets for the quilt, currently on display at Perkins Office Solution, are available at there and at NW Iowa Credit Union.

Before and during the auction, LCHS music students will be providing entertainment. Some of the groups scheduled to perform are a string quartet made up of Jerica Burchard, Rachel Schultz, Megan Sabin and Amanda Crabtree; the special string group made up of 13 students called Cordas da Camara; a trumpet trio and woodwind choir; and vocalists in a mixed ensemble, a treble ensemble and a bass ensemble.

A number of area businesses and individuals have donated items for the annual auction, including a Pro Tour Belly Putter; Casino Game set; "flower of the month" bouquets; specialty meals; restaurant and business certificates; Bulldog blanket, chairs and pillows; signed collection of photos from this year's musical, "The Music Man"; signed Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Crimson and Black, and Jazz Band pictures; professional family portrait package; framed photographs; oak portrait panel; jacket; $50 Savings Bonds; YMCA youth pass for one year; duffel bag; golf lessons; brass picture frames; movie pass; clocks; gift baskets; motel stay; steaks and chops; music stand; floral arrangement and more.

Several local artists, the Bogenriefs, Glenda Drennen, Jane Schultz, Byron Bulthuis, Genevieve Grau and Sue Betsworth have donated a blown glass vase, paintings, crotched tablecloth and doily, and a handmade bracelet. The auction items are on display in the Claussen's store window in downtown Le Mars. A complete listing of auction items was published in the Tuesday, March 29 edition of the Daily Sentinel.

This year's big finale is the 8th annual hand quilted, LCHS Music Boosters' Activities Quilt which depicts 26 student activities. Ruth Alexander, Sharon's Embroidery, Kathleen Hawkins and the ladies of St. John's Lutheran Church have all helped to make this year's unique quilt possible.

All the proceeds of this event help to purchase new band, choir and orchestra uniforms, give students scholarships to music camps and support the music program at the Le Mars Community Schools.
