Elwanda Willer, 81, of Phoenix, Ariz., and a former Akron area resident, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Ariz.
Elwanda Rose Hoogland was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Sioux County, the daughter of Jacob and Olga. She grew up in Sioux County and graduated from high school in Hawarden.
Elwanda was married to Donald Willer in 1944. They farmed for many years near Akron. Donald died in 1976. Elwanda lived in Akron until June 1980 when she moved to Phoenix, Ariz.
Elwanda enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and music. She touched many lives with the love she put into all the items she made for others. Her delight was to host large family gatherings complete with lots of food, fun, and love.
Elwanda is survived by her children: Iona Harms of Henderson, Nev., Dianna Willer of Phoenix, Ariz., Darrell Willer of Oshkosh, Wis., Darlys Willer of Salina, Kan.; a sister, Neva VonDonge of Ireton; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and a son, Dennis.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 20, at Faith Christian Community Church of the Nazarene, 5534 E Thunderbird Rd. Scottsdale, Ariz. 85254. Burial will be in Akron.
