Carolene Petersen, 67, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at her residence, following a lengthy illness.
Carolene was born in Le Mars on Jan. 12, 1938, the daughter of Joe and Sadie (Grothe) Hettwer. She lived in Le Mars all of her life and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1956.
She married Wilbur Petersen on May 11, 1958. The couple were away from the Le Mars area for five years while Wilbur served in the military.
During her life, she was employed at several Le Mars businesses, including Chemical Sanitizing, Bernie Klein Implement, Vern Anderson Implement and most recently, Le Mars Agri-Center.
Carolene was a member of the Eagles Lady Auxiliary and TOPS Club.
Carolene was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her biggest enjoyment was when she was able to travel and visit her grandchildren. She loved to knit, go camping and have coffee with her many friends. Carolene was well-known for her smile and quick-witted personality. She will be deeply missed by her family and many, many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur; four children and six grandchildren: Mike and Terry Petersen and their children, Eric and Emily of St. Francis Minn., Ryan and Kristi Petersen and their children, Danielle and Andrew of Glouster, Va., Terri and Jon Muench and their son Henry, of Seattle, Wash., and Dan and Julie Petersen and their daughter, Samantha of Castle Rock, Colo.; three sisters and three brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present after 4 p.m., and a prayer service at 5 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
