The National Championship of High School A Cappella is the first national contemporary a cappella tournament created specifically for high school ensembles. Similar to sports tournaments and competitions for other high school activities, NCHSA is a collection of State and Division performances culminating in a National Championship show held every May in Washington, D.C.
Competition begins with an audition process, in which up to seven finalists are selected in each state-level show. The winner and runner-up of each state-level show advances to one of five Division Championships. Each division winner then has an opportunity to compete in the finals for the title of National Champion.
The Kingsley-Pierson Jazz Choir was selected for the state level tournament through an audition CD submitted in December 2004. The Iowa/Nebraska state-level tournament will be held in Des Moines Saturday, Feb. 12. with a concert/competition at Roosevelt High SChool in Des Moines. The K-P choir will perform their set of music which includes "On the Street Where You Live" with soloist Justin Schroeder, "Touch A Heart" with soloists Nicole Henry, Hannah Bodiford, Lexi Washburn, Luke Evans, Brittany Henry, Mitch Rock and Brennan Schaeuble, and "Make Me Smile" with soloists Whitney Rock, Nicole Henry and JoAnn Roling.
