Falcons fly past Rockets
The Lady Rockets shot just 23 percent Thursday night in Ida Grove and dropped a Maple Valley Conference contest to Battle Creek-Ida Grove 67-18.
"They're very good, no doubt about it," said Remsen-Union head coach Randy Frericks. "They're young and they're gonna be very good in the future."
The Falcons shot a sizzling 68 percent from the floor, helping them post a 29-10 halftime lead and a 50-13 cushion after three quarters.
"We gave up 17 offensive rebounds, that kinda helped them out," said Frericks. "They had easier baskets than us."
Hope Weiler led the Lady Rockets with eight points. Katie Heisterkamp and Erica Loutsch each added four points, with Heisterkamp swiping two steals.
"We didn't shoot the ball very well," said Frericks. "Shots just weren't dropping. They played good defense, came out on us, and it was tough to get a good look at the basket."
Sarah Bortscheller grabbed a team-high seven boards as R-U was out-rebounded 30-18.
"We really got beat on the boards," said Frericks. "They were just taller and quicker to the ball."
Battle Creek-Ida Grove forced the Lady Rockets into 30 turnovers in the contest, a number that Frericks said he would like to see much lower.
"Some of it was their defensive pressure but some of it was carelessness," said Frericks. "We were just a little flat. We didn't seem like we were into the game. Hopefully tomorrow night we'll turn that around. "
The Lady Rockets, now 2-5 in conference play and 2-9 overall, return to the court Monday when they host Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto in the first round of the Maple Valley Conference tournament.
