Shirley E. Keenan, 82, of South Sioux City, Neb., died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at a South Sioux City retirement home following a brief illness.
Shirley Keenan was born Aug. 22, 1922, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of James A. and Kathern (Carney) Lauson. She graduated from South Sioux City High School. On Oct. 5, 1940, she married Dr. Charles E. Keenan at Denton, Neb. She worked for her husband, a podiatrist, as his office manager until his retirement. The couple were lifelong residents of South Sioux City, Neb. Her husband died in September 1995.
Shirley was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in South Sioux City snd Legend of Mary.
She loved to play bridge and enjoyed spending time with friends. Shirley also enjoyed traveling with her husband to trapshooting events over the years.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles and Ronda Keenan of Le Mars and Dr. Donald Keenan and his wife, Trudy Bergen, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren, Errin and Sean Keenan, and Kourtnee and Todd Fries; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Meghan Fries; one sister-in-law, Maureen Hartnett and one niece, Donna and Charles Juergens.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in South Sioux City with the Re. Dan Wittrock officiating. Burial will be follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at St. Michaels Catholic Church. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. The Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel of Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Errin Keenan, Sean Keenan, Todd Fries and Chuck Juergens.
Memorials may be made in her name to "The Keenan Scholarship" fund at the South Sioux City High School.
