Pauline Sorensen

Monday, January 3, 2005

Pauline Rebecca Sorensen, 92, formerly of Sioux City, entered into eternal life on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Pauline was born May 29, 1912, on her family farm, six miles southwest of Lake Preston, S.D., the daughter of Peder and Hilma Sophia (Bern) Nelson. She attended elementary school in Lake Preston and high school in Sioux Falls, S.D., graduating from Washington High School.

She married Stanley Richard Sorensen on April 21, 1933, in Sioux City. They raised two daughters, Merlene and Janet, and attended Riverside Lutheran Church. Pauline helped her husband by working in the office of Sorensen Construction Company. Stanley died Jan. 18, 1978.

Pauline continued to live in Sioux City, retiring from the JCPenney Company after 20 years. She lived an active life; hunted and fished with Stanley, traveled, played cards, Yahtzee and listened to music with her children and grandchildren, crocheted, knitted, painted, golfed and bowled on three leagues well into her 80s. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her friends at the Sioux City Senior Center.

Pauline moved to Bickford Cottage in the spring of 2000 and then to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars in December 2003.

She was well-loved for her feisty spirit, but tender, kind and loving soul. Pauline was appreciative of the smallest things people did for her and showered her family and friends with love.
